From luxury custom homes to complex residential reroofs, this Texas roofing contractor is building its reputation with quality craftsmanship, standing seam metal roofing, and a strong supplier partnership.

Starting a roofing company comes with plenty of challenges. Building relationships with customers, earning the trust of local builders, and finding dependable suppliers are all essential to establishing a successful business.

For Riley Davis, owner of RAD Roofing in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, standing seam metal roofing has become an important part of that journey.

Founded in January 2025, RAD Roofing has quickly established relationships with custom home builders and homeowners throughout West DFW, completing a variety of residential roofing projects ranging from traditional shingle installations to full standing seam metal roofing systems.

Sheffield Metals has supported RAD Roofing from the beginning, helping establish a supplier relationship Davis continues to rely on as the company takes on more standing seam work.

“Being a new company too, they took care of us from the start,” Davis said.

Thad Barnette from the Metal Roofing Channel recently joined Davis to tour several RAD Roofing projects throughout the Fort Worth area, discuss the growing demand for standing seam metal roofing in Texas, and learn more about the company’s experience working with Sheffield Metals.

Building a Roofing Business in the Dallas-Fort Worth Market

RAD Roofing serves homeowners and custom home builders throughout the western Dallas-Fort Worth region, including communities such as Weatherford and surrounding areas.

Although the company is relatively new, Davis has focused on developing strong relationships with local builders and delivering roofing systems that complement each home’s design.

“We’re a fairly new company. Started at the beginning of 2025 and just work hand in hand with a lot of custom home builders, homeowners after hailstorms,” Davis explained.

The company’s work includes new construction, residential reroofing, and storm restoration projects.

One area where RAD Roofing has found opportunities is standing seam metal roofing.

According to Davis, metal roofing has become increasingly common throughout the Fort Worth area, appearing on everything from luxury custom homes to smaller architectural accents.

“We do a lot of new construction shingles as well. Front porches, back porches, awnings is huge. Almost every house we do has some sort of metal on it.”

While full standing seam roofing systems are typically associated with higher-end residential construction, Davis has also seen significant interest in incorporating metal roofing into smaller sections of homes.

For RAD Roofing, that demand creates opportunities to offer customers additional roofing options while building expertise in metal roofing installation. A dependable supplier relationship supports that effort.

“With the office, from the people in the shop we feel like they take good care of us, so that’s who we use and we’re going to stick with it,” Davis said of Sheffield Metals.

Showcasing Standing Seam Metal Roofing on Custom Texas Homes

During the Metal Roofing Channel visit, Barnette and Davis toured several residential projects demonstrating the versatility of standing seam metal roofing.

Each home featured unique architectural details, color selections, and installation considerations.

Dark Bronze Standing Seam on a Luxury Custom Home

One featured project was a luxury custom home built by Blake Freeman Custom Homes in Crescent, Texas.

The home featured Dark Bronze standing seam metal roofing, a 1.5-inch snap-lock panel system, and custom-fabricated chimney caps.

The dark metal panels complemented the home’s natural wood soffits, stone exterior, and other architectural elements, creating a distinctive Texas-inspired aesthetic.

Davis explained that this combination of materials has become increasingly popular among builders in the area.

“You got the stone out here with the over smear on the mortar, all the soffit exposed wood, just ties in great with the metal.”

The project demonstrates how standing seam metal roofing can complement traditional materials while providing a clean, contemporary appearance.

Matte Black Standing Seam on a Custom Home

Another featured project highlighted RAD Roofing’s work with a custom home builder on one of the company’s early standing seam installations.

The home featured a 1.5-inch snap-lock system with smooth panels in Matte Black.

The roofing color was selected to coordinate with several exterior design elements, including the window frames, garage doors, and light fixtures.

“As far as the matte black color, they were matching window frames, garage doors, light fixtures on the exterior,” Davis explained.

Beyond the standing seam roof itself, the project also included custom 24-gauge metal edging and chimney caps fabricated by RAD Roofing.

Davis described how the installation provided an opportunity to work closely with the builder and homeowner throughout the metal roofing selection process.

“So a learning process, getting them in line, getting the customer in line, and then just teaching them the standing seam process. Color selection, panel selection, and all the fun stuff.”

For a growing contractor, helping builders and homeowners understand metal roofing options is an important part of developing long-term customer relationships. Sheffield’s color selection is one part of that conversation, giving RAD additional options to introduce to builders and homeowners, as Davis explained when discussing CoreLine™ TLG colors.

Tackling a Complex Residential Reroof

Not every RAD Roofing project involves new construction.

During the tour, Barnette also highlighted a residential reroof featuring steep roof slopes, tight valleys, multiple roof sections, custom flashings, and fabricated chimney caps.

Compared to the new construction projects, the home’s roof geometry presented additional installation challenges.

With numerous transitions and intersecting roof sections, the project required careful detailing and craftsmanship to achieve a consistent finished appearance.

The project showcased RAD Roofing’s ability to work on more complicated residential roofing applications as its business continues to develop.

Why Standing Seam Metal Roofing Is Gaining Popularity in Texas

For homeowners throughout Texas, the decision to install standing seam metal roofing often comes down to a combination of appearance, performance, and potential financial benefits.

According to Davis, the visual appeal of standing seam is one of its biggest selling points.

“My favorite roofing system for sure. I think visually it stands above the rest.”

But appearance isn’t the only factor driving demand.

The Importance of Class 4 Impact Resistance

Texas homeowners frequently deal with severe weather, including hailstorms that can damage residential roofing systems.

As a result, impact resistance can be an important consideration when choosing roofing materials.

Davis noted that Class 4 impact-resistant roofing systems are particularly appealing to homeowners because qualifying systems may help reduce insurance premiums.

“With how insurance companies are going, getting the class four stamp is huge.”

Class 4 is the highest impact-resistance classification under the UL 2218 testing standard. However, not every standing seam metal roofing system automatically qualifies for a Class 4 rating. Ratings depend on the specific tested assembly, and potential insurance discounts vary by insurer and policy.

For contractors like RAD Roofing, offering appropriately rated metal roofing systems provides another way to address homeowners’ concerns about long-term roof performance.

Standing Seam Roofing as an Architectural Feature

Beyond performance, Davis has noticed that metal roofing is becoming an increasingly important architectural element in Texas residential construction.

In some neighborhoods, full standing seam roofs are common. In others, builders incorporate metal roofing into porches, awnings, and other accent areas.

The result is a market where metal roofing can complement a wide variety of home styles, from modern residential designs to traditional Texas farmhouses.

CoreLine™ TLG Colors Give RAD Roofing More Options to Offer Customers

Color is a key part of the roofing selection process, particularly on custom homes where the roof needs to coordinate with stone, wood, windows, and other exterior finishes.

While Matte Black remains popular among RAD Roofing’s customers, Davis said Sheffield Metals’ CoreLine™ textured low-gloss (TLG) PVDF colors are drawing interest in additional options.

“Luckily with Sheffield, they offer the TLG colors and people have been jumping all over those. Moonstone and Dark Bronze are huge.”

That feedback offers a specific example of how Sheffield’s product selection supports RAD Roofing’s business: Davis can introduce customers to colors they are responding to as they consider a standing seam roof.

For builders and homeowners looking beyond Matte Black, Moonstone™ and TLG Dark Bronze give RAD more options to discuss when coordinating a roof with the rest of a home’s exterior.

How Sheffield Metals Supports RAD Roofing’s Growth

As RAD Roofing continues to expand its standing seam metal roofing business, Davis emphasized the importance of having a reliable supplier relationship.

For a newer contractor, consistency, communication, and dependable support can make a meaningful difference.

When Barnette asked Davis to describe his experience with Sheffield Metals, his answer focused on the people behind the products.

“It’s been great. I would say a word to describe it is relationship-based.”

Sheffield Metals serves the Dallas-Fort Worth region through its Arlington, Texas, location, providing metal roofing materials and support to contractors and other customers throughout the area.

For Davis, working with a supplier he trusts has been especially valuable while establishing his business.

“It’s key. I mean, really, you know, you don’t want to have to go to multiple people. Having one person you’re loyal to is huge to us.”

That relationship has continued as RAD Roofing takes on additional projects and works to grow its standing seam metal roofing business.

For Sheffield Metals, partnerships like this reflect the importance of providing more than just roofing materials. Building lasting relationships with contractors and supporting their needs as they grow are central to creating long-term customer success.

Looking Ahead: Continuing to Grow with Metal Roofing

In its early years, RAD Roofing has developed relationships with custom home builders, completed a range of standing seam installations, and continued building its presence throughout West DFW.

From smooth-panel Matte Black roofs to Dark Bronze systems on luxury custom homes, the company’s projects demonstrate the opportunities available to contractors working in the residential metal roofing market.

For Davis, continuing to grow the business means maintaining strong relationships with builders, homeowners, and suppliers.

And as the company takes on more standing seam projects, its partnership with Sheffield Metals remains an important part of that growth.

“Growing the book of business that we have in the standing seam area is huge and [Sheffield Metals] has been willing to support us and we’re thankful for that.”
